Gotham

I am not sure if this needs to be its own thread, but I think it does.

The new show on fox premiers September 22nd and I am really excited about it. I have always thought that the DC world of Gotham city would make a great setting for a tv series. While this show does not feature Batman as the main character, it loosely follows the start of the classic Batman beginning story. Following Jim Gordon as the main protagonist, this show is set to be a update on the traditional cop drama.

I am really pumped for this show, especially to see some of the story lines featuring villains we know. Is anyone else planning on watching this show? What do you speculate?

I think it'll be pretty cool if it stays focused on Gordon and the police side of things instead of giving in to the temptation of big winks at fans by showing young villains, etc. In short, I think its potential is in showing off Gotham the city, and its history, instead of catering too hard to the usual Batman fandom.

Another reason I'm kind of excited is because it's created by Bruno Heller, the creator of the best TV show of all time (HBO's Rome). Hopefully he still has some gas left in the tank... and can do something interesting with network TV.

I agree with everything you said. I am very excited about Gotham as a setting, as we have never really gotten to explore it from a non-super hero perspective. I won't mind running into young villains, but I wish that they take advantage of the opportunity to make new villains.

I watched the first episode last night. Did anyone else? I think the show has a lot of promise and I am excited to see where it will go.

I think so far the show has a great premise. The first episode had a lot of potential but the rest of the episodes haven't lived up to that potential yet. I'll stick with it to see if it can find its legs. After all, Agents of SHIELD only found its voice nearly halfway into its first season. So far, I'm more intrigued by The Flash however.

I agree. I am very interested in the overarching plots such as what is going on with the Penguin and the Wayne murders, but I wish the "mini plots" from each episode were a tad better and more interesting.

This series will air on a dutch tv-network soon. What's the verdict so far?

The first half of season 1 has concluded until the spring. I really liked the show. If you like Batman, you will like Gotham.

Watched first 2 episodes yesterday, liked it so far. Lots of familiar names passed by, even those you'll know that will turn (semi)villain later on (or at least expect them to). Alfred was a bit strange though, you'd expect a british butler but this Alfred is more an australian "teacher".

Glad you are getting into this! The show just came back after the holiday break and is still pretty good.
