The anticipated system update for Nintendo 3DS is now available (Ver. 9.0.0-20), providing the ability to customize your Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu with various themes! It is possible to take screenshots of the menu by tapping the Y button and up/down on the d-pad for top and bottom screens. The top half of the lower screen (Game Notes, Friends List, Notifications, Internet Browser, Miiverse) now shows their icons enlarged, as you move the cursor to the respective software. Nintendo 3DS Image Share is much easier to access, by clicking on the "HOME Menu Settings" icon/tab.

The update also brings Nintendo eShop improvements (such as a software description overhaul [similar to Wii U]; "New" tags are now blue, instead of red). Additionally, new notifications will pop up in the menu itself, without tapping the notifications icon.

All and all, I'm really loving the new features! What do you think?

I was surprised this feature was added today! I shamefully spent the $2 on the Zelda theme, I just had to. It even has its own Zelda music/sound effects. eShop updates are nice, less screens to go through. Icons on the main menu look better too.

If you keep scrolling the image keeps going, ends up bring Link as a painting on the wall. I had more games on my home menu before but I liked the symmetrical look having fewer icons gave so I threw more in folders.

It comes with 5 free colours. And the potential to get free ones through download codes.

I'd say I won't spend money on this, but I probably would if there were one that particularly tickled my fancy. We'll see.

Just did the system update. Not sure if I will spend any money on these. I am debating getting a new 3DS since I have an original and the new ones look tempting...

I'd totally spend money on this if there were a theme that tickled my fancy, which is unlikely. I doubt we'll see a FF4 theme anytime soon, and if we do, there's a good chance it'll look as plain and boring as the "character" themes in the shop. Nintendo is really unambitious with the themes they made (really? stripes?). Really, this should be a feature where users can make their own themes, but Nintendo is so control-freaky about that sort of thing.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind some nice nuanced theme, not just a big busy piece of game art or some pixels/sprites. Something really coherent and themed. Maybe a This Old Neon theme! :D

Weird thing happened after I turned my 3DS off for the first time after installing the new theme - all my games came out of their folders and turned into presents. Hasn't happened since, but I thought it was pretty weird :P Kind of annoying individually unwrapping each game all over again and putting them back in their folders.
