PlayStation Vue: Streaming TV

Earlier this year, Sony hinted at an upcoming TV service. Today, they announced PlayStation Vue, a streaming television service that promises to rethink the concept of cable subscription. It's not entirely clear what this means yet, but I suspect it'll be something akin to PlayStation Now's timed rental model.
It'll begin an invite-only closed beta this November, and then it'll roll out commercially in Q1 2015.
They claim it'll be coming to PS3 and PS4 at first, then to iPad (perhaps the most surprising part of the announcement for me), and then for other Sony devices.
