Fallout gets a vote because it deserves it, but Rolling Thunder is my personal pick here. This one is among my all time arcade favourites in the golden age. It had such strong art direction, it became one of the sources of inspiration for my weird 7-year-old imagination's forays into making (terrible) comic books/fan fiction. I don't think I've played it since '88, and I'm pretty sure it hasn't held up like Shinobi has, but it's a favourite nonetheless.

Fallout is an easy choice here. I gave my second vote to Zero Escape, which can seem to be an uncharacteristic choice for me. This is a game that benefited greatly from being a PS+ freebie, because I would never have tried it otherwise. The main game plays out like a fairly typical point & click puzzler crossed with a virtual novel. Big puzzle rooms alternate with lengthy expository sequences. Fairly standard stuff. But then something happens after you beat the game. Something special. I can't spoil it. Anyway, this little spark of originality alone wouldn't normally be enough to earn a vote from me here, but the game executes it very well.

Fallout and Super Mario RPG get my votes this time. It's a shame because I'm pretty sure I will really like Virtue's Last Reward when I finally get around to playing it. But I've got to play 999 first.

I never played 999 so I can confidently state that it's not required to understand the game. Of course, you might get more out of it if you have that background.

I haven't played any of them enough to vote here.
