Caught up on another big blog post backlog. Difficult to pick just a couple of these to highlight, but Akka Arrh is super cool as one would expect from Llamasoft, and Gargoyle's Quest II was a fun return for me to the world of GnG.

Oh, and it was nice to finally return to and actually beat Metroid Prime!

Finished:
Jan 29. Splatoon 3
Feb 12. Mario Kart Super Circuit (NSO GBA)
Feb 12. Kirby Super Star (NSO SNES)
Feb 12. Kirby's Dream Land (NSO GB)
Mar 08. Mario Strikers: Battle League (Switch)
Mar 11. Persona 5 Royal (Switch)
Mar 12. New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
Mar 13. Mario Kart DS
Mar 14. Mario Vs. Donkey Kong Mini-Land Mayhem (DS)
Mar 23. Kirby: Squeak Squad (DS)
Mar 25. Kirby: Mass Attack (DS)
Mar 27. Hogwarts Legacy (PS5)
Mar 28. Super Mario 64 DS
Mar 30. Kirby's Dream Land 3 (NSO SNES)
Apr 13. Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 (NSO GBA)
Apr 27. Fire Emblem Engage (Switch)

FE Engage was another good Fire Emblem. Overall, I'm partial to three Houses due to the characters and story. But, I think this game had great gameplay and the Emblem rings made things pretty interesting. The story got better as it went on, and the characters stronger in later support conversations.

I had also played through the GBA SMB3. Always a good game, but this time I got to play through all the eReader exclusive levels. Pretty cool, and they actually had a lot of ideas that we'd see years later in modern 2D Mario's.

I'm super interested in checking those out when I get some time. Really cool that they included them (and a bit surprising for Nintendo IMO).

I played them on an eReader I picked up from who knows where, some garage sale or something. It's great that they included them in digital form! (Even if it will be disappearing with the next Nintendo console...)

I think I've said this with each console refresh, but I'd actually be surprised if NSO doesn't carry over the the next console, especially now that it's endless subscription revenue they are earning.

I picked up Cadence a long time ago but never made it far. Started playing again the other day and really enjoyed my time with it. It's tough in the beginning but once you learn the rhythm and get a little stronger it's very manageable. Honestly surprised how much it plays like a traditional Zelda!

Re: 2023 Game Clear Thread

I've been making my updates via edits in my original post and then making monthly update summaries in a new post in the thread, to remind people that I'm still playing games silently in the background. :D

In April, I slowed down significantly, since the vast majority of my free time was spent acquiring gear and setting up my new office / streaming rig / gaming den. I only beat 2 games, only 1 of which was a full completion, and I earned 0 new Platinum trophies.

It's too early to say if my progress will pick back up in May, since I'm starting to get busy with some dog sports, but hopefully the new rig encourages me to keep playing a variety of games rather than just sinking all my time into catching up on FF14. :D

2023-04-06 - Baba Is You (Switch) - Well, my plan worked. I initially ran into a mental roadblock on the finale (as I had on so many previous levels), and I figured it would be good to take a short break from the game to have a rest and get some fresh eyes/perspective... then forgot to go back to it. Anyway, however long ago that was (years?!), the break was long enough, and I cracked out the finale today. Still lots of levels left to play, of course!

2023-04-05 - Kirby's Dream Land (GB via NSO) - I beat this game on my real Game Boy hardware over a decade ago, and frankly I never really intended to come back to it to finish off the second loop. But for whatever reason, after going through a couple of Mario Land games on NSO, I figured I might as well fire it up and see if I could overcome it. The base game is absurdly easy, but the "Extra Mode" is really difficult. After a lot of practice on a couple of the bosses in particular, I was finally able to put this one to rest.
