My personal classic vote goes to SimCity.

My influential masterpiece vote goes to Doom.

I'm also casting an enduring fun vote for Rock Band 3. While I prefer The Beatles: Rock Band for the soundtrack, this one was a centrepiece of my parties for a long time. Bonus: everyone can play. Everyone. I brought this home for Christmas one year, and I came downstairs on Boxing Day morning to find my mom and dad playing guitars on AC/DC songs.

Another of my favourite Rock Band memories was creating avatars for each of my friends. I made one for my brother-in-law, who's a big burly biker (shaved head, beard, tattoos, weight-lifter). We were playing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and all of a sudden the game cuts to his avatar singing the falsetto backup vocals and everyone in the room just lost it. Fucking phenomenal.

I really enjoyed No More Heroes, but it has too many flaws to get a vote from me. I voted for Superstar Saga as it's one of the best Mario RPGs. I think Doom probably will lock this up though.

If it was Rock Band 2 I'd be all over it. In comparison, RB3 had an atrociously dull soundtrack. That was something I originally didn't want to admit because I didn't want buyers remorse... But anyways, my group of friends finally had a "Rock Band night" and we started with 3 of course. The atmosphere was, it's safe to say, sedated. Just plodding along, "who wants to go next?" "Nah, you carry on".

Right. Rock Band 2 it is.

The mood changed instantly. What a night it was in the end.

I'm voting for MUSHA, the second best shooter on the Genesis and among the best ever, as well as Phantasy Star III, a problematic but wonderful game with lots to see and do and a few pretty big surprises. Also, outer space!

Good, even great games in the running, none of which can stand alongside true juggernauts like Doom and Sim City. Nothing in this bracket should rank higher

I hope Doom ends up in the same poll as Doom II in the next round. That'd make me chuckle

They'll just both pass and knock out 2 lesser games.

Rock Band 3 perfected playability. Drop in, drop out, change settings without backing out, etc. Voting for it for it's UI.

Definitely. Plus, the bulk of the soundtrack (at least for me) was in DLC anyway, so no major difference between 2 and 3 there.
