Top 512 — Week 6 — Poll 20

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 512!

Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Sunday or Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Warcraft II is the best RTS of all time, and it spawned other, less good but still somehow more popular RTS games like StarCraft and StarCraft II that helped establish the genre in the eSports scene. It refined on the basics of the previous game without getting overly complicated in mechanics and fast pace of the later games. Warcraft II. Perfect RTS.

I felt like Warcraft II made the factions a little too alike (the only differences I recall being spell selection, where I think Orcs had an edge). Still a good RTS, for sure. I remember finally getting a PC with 8MB of RAM for it.

Even though I played AOL Neverwinter Nights and ImagiNation network's MMOs before WC2, the lobbying system and a better chat system in WC2 combined with internet play in "Kali" made for more varied/better actual interaction with other players.

The the other thing I loved about WC2 at the time (though it's not unique to the game by any stretch) is the map creation tools. I recall making lengthy tower defence maps long before that genre even got officially invented with WC3, and making big maps themed after our group's D&D campaign setting and then inviting them to play them online. Super fun times.

Gonna abstain on this because even though RTS ain't my shit, I've been compelled by the arguments above. Plus, as much as I enjoyed Kirby's Adventure, there's always been this feeling to me that, with a few exceptions, Kirby games are pure comfort food that I don't love seeing knock out more interesting games. I really enjoy Kirby games (I'm working through one now!), but perhaps only Super Star Ultra has ever truly wowed me. The rest are just nice, breezy games to enjoy comfortably.

I'm not a fan of RTS, in general. Warcraft II was superb. Played it so much in highschool. A pity Kirby is up against it.

Also: Zug Zug!

Zug zug vs. suc suc. Kirby will do well in the lower bracket, matchups permitting.

Zug zug indeed. The Kirby series has a number of great and interesting titles and KA has major points in its favor for being the first to introduce his copy abilities. But Warcraft II is just too great of a game to lose this.
