Top 512 — Week 6 — Poll 1

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 512!
Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.
Polls are updated weekly, typically on Sunday or Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!
HOW TO VOTE
This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

This is a really good upper-bracket BGE poll. Glad to see it happening before our eyes. I'd like to see at least one more vote though so Silent Hill doesn't end up getting demoted on a tie-breaker.

I'll confess to being a holdout on this one.
I've played Doom II, but it's been at least 25 years.
I watched a roommate play Silent Hill, but it's been at least 15.
Doom II is a great iteration of Doom, while Silent Hill is the first entry in a series that got refined later. Silent Hill is interesting in its hidden/variant content (e.g. a boss battle that's skippable if you did the right things in order, and changes the outcome) - that often makes little sense even within the already confusing atmosphere of the game. By the end of the game it's not even clear what happened.
I think I'm leaning towards Silent Hill on this one, but I'll think about it a little more.

Silent Hill is certainly a confusing and disorienting game. It’s still managed to be more moving than an admittedly outstanding first-person shooter in Doom II. I had trouble picking between the two but went with the former because it stuck with me more.

Yeah, that's a good way to put it. Even just watching Silent Hill 15 years ago, I think about it more than most games I played last year.
It's confusing, but thought-provoking.
