Bottom 1024 — Week 28 — Poll 23

Post by This Old Neon »

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round Lower Bracket!

Each game in the lower bracket is still seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools! Every game in the lower bracket has already been defeated by another game in a 1-on-1 poll to get to this point. This is their chance to claw their way back into the main event... but the stakes are high. The games that lose in these polls are out of the tournament for good! The games that survive will face the next crop of upper bracket losers in the next round.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Saturday... or Sunday or Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

I appreciate Breath of Fire 2 (though I haven't played it in a long time, I think the last time was on the abominable GBA translation)... and I'll admit that Recettear's dungeon-crawling gameplay isn't the best... but Recettear hit a magical midpoint between simulation and action-RPG for me. It's like the Taloon chapter of DQ4 on steroids, and it's something I had wanted for years. The first time I played, I pulled through some of the debt deadlines by the skin of my teeth and it was both gratifying and exhausting.

On replays I see more of its flaws (and still struggle with the debt deadlines sometimes), but it's still a really fun game to play.

I'm a way bigger fan of the first Breath of Fire than its sequel, so if I were going to throw something under the bus it's more likely to be this, but unfortunately I thought Recettear was much better in concept than in execution. Really cool idea. Just didn't end up being a particularly fun or enduring game to play. In my IMO.
