Bottom 1024 — Week 30 — Poll 22

Post by This Old Neon »

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round Lower Bracket!

Each game in the lower bracket is still seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools! Every game in the lower bracket has already been defeated by another game in a 1-on-1 poll to get to this point. This is their chance to claw their way back into the main event... but the stakes are high. The games that lose in these polls are out of the tournament for good! The games that survive will face the next crop of upper bracket losers in the next round.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Saturday... or Sunday or Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

I don't mind whichever game advances here either. Mappy is a fine arcade game, and Diablo III is the refinement of the promise of the original two games—big dudes spamming cooldowns at a bunch of monsters and making the numbers go up on their gear.

Diablo III was a big step down from II, IMO. Especially after trying out II Resurrected for awhile (which improves the viability of a lot of different classes). I'll admit I only played D3 for ~5 hours shortly after launch, but it was one of the most disappointing launch-buys I've made.

Where in II you had flavors / trees to go down, and you could have, say, 3 kinds of Necromancers viable even in hard modes (Bone spell, poison, skeleton summon), from what I recall of III you weren't investing points, just unlocking new abilities automatically as you leveled - your only choices were gear, and it was very straightforward whether gear was better than what you had. All witch doctors, given the same gear, would be identical. It took a game that was already leaning pretty hard in the cookie-clicker direction and made it worse.

I've heard it was improved later on, but my initial experience soured me enough that I haven't been willing to give it another try yet.

Yeah, I didn't start playing 3 till after the "we made the game good" patch. I haven't tried II Resurrected yet either. I should give that a try sometime.

I thought Resurrected would be a "you can find fan patches for regular D2" but it's a bit more than that. I waited until a sale and was pleasantly surprised by the balancing changes that make e.g. a summoner druid a more viable build. It does run a bit sluggish, most actions are server-side when they weren't in the original, but it's generally good.

I still got tired of grinding out equipment after getting a character into A3 Hell, but at least the shared stash and balance changes made it a more pleasant experience up until that wall.
