Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 512!

Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Sunday or Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Final Fantasy Tactics is my favourite game of all time, overall. And in this round it's run up against a bite-sized gimmick app. Switch Force on its own is a pleasant enough diversion, but it's not in the conversation as one of the best games of all time, as the godfather of a genre. FFT is one of those rare gems that frequently gets name-dropped as the best game in its series despite the fact it's just a spinoff.

Anyway, obvious influence and import aside, one of the things I love about the game is how it implicitly gives you tons of options for how to play it without systematizing them into actual options in a menu. If you want to ride through the story, you can field OP units like Cid. If you want more of a challenge, you can bench the story units and recruit a bunch of no-names. The game also gives you space to decide if you'd like to grind out absurd job combinations to crack the mechanics wide open or stick to more traditional job-party setups and play the game like a straight RPG. It's a rewarding way of giving the player control over their own gameplay experience.

Plus the story is rad.
