Easy vote for R-Type here, as the only representative of the highly influential and entertaining shmup genre remaining in the contest. At least it's a good representative!

R-Type really shouldn't have gotten this far, but it keeps getting put into weak-ass brackets.

I voted for Smash Bros Melee. For the sheer amount of hours I put into it playing this on my own, with friends and with family. It felt bigger, better and more defined than it's predecessor which I tried to get into but found it too slow and clunky.
It's absolutely brimming with unlockable content as far as levels, characters, modes, soundtrack etc. and kept giving me reasons to come back to it, even when no-one else was around to play it with me. The multiplayer never got old, 'just one more round' quickly became thirty.

Not even sure why R-Type is here, never mind why it's winning as of now. Ludicrous.

Well, as Pluvius said, it's been up against some weak games, including one in this bracket.

R-Type is a fantastic and effectively perfect shooter. I'll vote for it until the end. Most games are weak compared to it ;)

Melee for me, spent a redicolus amount of time with this game instead of studying during my late teens.
Heck, me and my friends still play it from time to time.

Not even close. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: there is hardly anything on the green Earth more fun than playing as Captain Falcon in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

So here's a gif of him getting destroyed (but for the sake of arguing that Melee is amazing),

As my final point, can you name another 14 year old fighting game whose biggest tournament of all time was this year!
You got BOOST power!
