While I was booting up my Wii U to make some Wind Waker progress, I remembered I had F-Zero loaded on here. I put a few minutes into beating the Knight League on Beginner mode. I'll probably continue with the other Leagues, although this definitely isn't my kind of racer (it wasn't at the time either—I remember not liking it when it came out, despite the hype).

In a continuing theme of dusting the Wii U off, I beat Mighty Switch Force: Hyperdrive Edition this afternoon, and was pleased to find it's more of a puzzler than a platformer. I docked an entertainmentpoint for a couple of archaic UX mechanics, but overall it's a fairly charming little game, worth the $9.99 I imagine I spent on it.

Beaten:
1/17 - Mortal Kombat X (Xbone)
1/31 - Blast Corps (Xbone [N64])
3/6 - Pokémon Edición Azul (3DS [VC])
3/23 - Shovel Knight (Wii U)
4/18 - LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (360)
4/23 - Star Fox Zero (Wii U)
5/18 - Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (DS)
6/25 - Kirby: Planet Robobot (3DS)
7/5 - Halo 3: ODST (Xbone [360])
7/19 - DOOM (XBLA [MS-DOS])
7/25 - LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Xbone)
7/30 - Gunstar Heroes (XBLA [Genesis])
8/6 - The Wolf Among Us (Xbone)
8/28 - Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (GBA)

This was a long time coming. It's the only entry in the series I'd not beaten since blasting through the others in sequence in '08-'09. But it was about as forgettable as I expected, since basically no one talks about it anymore. It was fun to get one more platforming adventure with these charming environments and some of my favorite characters in games, but the gimmicks and tricks in this GBA title were less exciting than those found in the console counterparts. I do admire the ambition of trying to make a 3D platformer work on a 2D platform, just too bad it couldn't have been a little better. Worth the ~$10 I spent on it, though.

Plus, I can still hold out hope that Rare has another Banjo game in the tubes for some day down the stretch, but in the event they don't, I guess there's nothing wrong with a good series just being over. Happens with all good bands and TV shows, after all. Besides, there's still Banjo-Pilot, I reckon. And Yooka-Laylee is looking better by the day!

Rebeaten:
3/28 - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS3 [PS2]) (2x)

:(

You played any of the 3D ones? I think it's a significantly different (and improved) enough experience that you may like those despite not being crazy about the original. Or by "not my kind of racer," do you mean any of the F-Zero/wipEout type?
The Shoemaker wrote: Saw a physical version of he Wolf Among Us for $20 at the store, might just pick it up sometime.

From anecdotal evidence, it seems like XBOX gets better "free" games than PS4, so I'm certainly jealous!
Yeah, $20 seems like a solid price for it. Not a lot of staying power, but you'll enjoy it while it lasts, for sure.

And yeah, on the other hand I feel like PlayStation users have gotten some great games too. Rocket League, Strider, Rogue Legacy, OlliOlli2, etc. Guess it's easier to notice what you're not getting than what you are.

I haven't played any of the 3D ones (yet—I own X and GX). But I will. I just tend not to like fast racers, so the same applies to Wipeout. But I could be convinced by great gameplay, we'll see.

(Aug 4) Fallout 4 (PS4)

(Aug 29) Mario and Luigi Paper Jam (3DS)

Complete
(Jan 10) - SteamWorld Heist (3DS)
(Mar 22) - The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD (Wii U)
(Jun 23) - InFamous Second Son (PS4)
(Jun 26) - Mega Man 5 (Mega Man Legacy Collection 3DS)
(Jun 27) - Mega Man 6 (Mega Man Legacy Collection 3DS)

Paper Jam done! It was actually a lot shorter than the last entry in the series, but I also felt that one went on a bit too long. This was a good length, with a surprisingly good difficulty as well. Definitely enjoyed it more than I thought I would!

Yeah, if something's not your thing, it's not your thing. GX was my first F-Zero game, and it just blew me away with its ultra-convincing sense of speed (which I've not seen replicated in any other game in the F-Zero series or otherwise) and brutal (but fair) gameplay. I played it when I was pretty young, and I was very proud to beat its very challenging story missions and Grands Prix. X has over time become my favorite game in the series for various personal/semi-arbitrary reasons, but if I had to *recommend* an entry to someone, it would be GX. If you don't like GX, then I'd say the series is just not for you.

Hurray! I beat Pokémon Picross (3DS) and Mutant Mudds Deluxe (Vita) tonight.

I still have to unlock and beat Alt-World in the former, and I still have the levels beyond the mirror to complete the latter... but at least I can play as an old grannie now. In spite of how awful this game is, it's nice to see someone taking a stand against ageism in gaming.
