I'm happy I didn't back MN9, I didn't really follow it when it was announced so I was never motivated to, but it really did just sound like a mess. You didn't receive your physical reward and I'd be surprised if 3DS/Vita ever get the version they were promised.Claytone wrote: Finally beat the first game I ever Kickstarted (and possibly the last). MN9 is a pretty decent game with some cool ideas (killing bad buys honestly feels pretty great), but I still haven't gotten over how poorly the Kickstarter was handled. I never received my physical reward, for one, and I was not responded to when I inquired about it. Certainly that colors my impression of the entire game, but trying to keep that from muddying it too much, I come to the conclusion that it fits snugly in the good-but-definitely-not-great range. I don't regret playing it, but I absolutely regret backing it.
Meanwhile, Yooka-Laylee is on the horizon and looks absolutely delightful... and I didn't back it. Honestly, seems like the way to go. I may have missed out on early access or an exclusive trinket or two, but I avoided the risk of throwing my money away, and I'll get to play the game anyway. I guess I'm glad not everyone thinks like me so cool stuff like Yooka keeps happening, but I just really don't want to get burned like I did on MN9 ever again. Not a great feeling.
Yooka Laylee looks fantastic. Not sure how you can tell if a Kickstarter is trustworthy or not, but Yooka Laylee definitely gave the charm. I think that and Shovel Knight will be the stars of Kickstarter games.
