The fourth 2015 "BEST GAME EVER!!!" Project Side-Event is Franchise Firsts.
This is the opposite of VictorViper's recommendation in the original side-events suggestion thread. This side-event showcases the original games in long-standing franchises. In order to qualify for this side-event, games have to meet these criteria:
At least three games in the series were nominated.
Games in the series span across at least two platforms (all three nominated S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games were on PC, so it's not included).
The first/original game in the series must have been among the nominations (you won't see games like Metal Gear, Mega Man, Rayman, Grand Theft Auto, Fire Emblem, Dynasty Warriors, Crash Bandicoot, Double Dragon, Saints Row, or Spyro here for this reason).
Spin-offs and side-series based on an already existing series are not included (e.g. Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Metal Gear Solid, Seiken Densetsu, Metroid Prime, etc.) or there would simply be too many.
What's left is a fairly large and varied collection of games that spawned series of relative longevity and/or influence.
There will be 3 rounds: 4 brackets of 8, followed by 2 brackets of 8, followed by 1 final bracket of 8.
Brackets are seeded more or less chronologically.
You will be able to vote for two games in each poll.

Also Half-Life 1 is multiplat. Redo the polls pls.
Eugh I'd rather see super mario kart and donkey kong country added as they are games that are completely different to the originals. Seems like the rules are a little strict. Nonetheless should be an interesting side event.

Strict rules are what create an interesting pool. Otherwise there would be a bracket of like 10 different Mario sub-series.

The polls feel unbalanced to me... Poll 1 and 2 is really stacked and polls 3 and 4 are really weak... Just letting ya know and see if anyone else feels the same?

That's probably because you like games from the '80s. Poll 4 is also stacked, it's just stacked with more recent games that haven't had as much time to make an impact, or that people around here in particular might not have had as much chance to play.

You've got the paper ones and the doctor ones...you could make a case for 2d vs 3D...maybe even for side stuff he showed up in (I.e. Golf)

Yeah, Donkey Kong Country is funny in that it's a side series but has become the main series.
