Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 32!
Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.
Polls are updated weekly, typically on Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!
HOW TO VOTE
This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Odyssey is good, but Half-Life was one of the first big successes of modding - something that PC users of games now take largely for granted is that quality mods will emerge - and even on other platforms, mods / user-created content are becoming more possible.
Odyssey is more of a refinement of the existing Mario formula, and while the hat transformations and hidden moons are cool, they're not really enough to make it stand apart from its predecessors IMO.
Counter-Strike alone might be enough to justify voting for Half-Life over Odyssey to say nothing of HL's own merits as a game.

Well said, and I agree completely. Much has been said about the influence of games on subsequent games, genres, etc. in this competition, but Half-Life is one of those games that literally birthed literal other games directly from its own code.
And it is among the clutch of those strong early first-person adventures that started to blur the line between genres that people had come to take for granted based on gameplay conventions. Now we have games like God of War that are... action, adventure, role-playing, plot-driven everything machines. People say "everything has RPG elements in it now!" or "everything has Dark Souls mechanics!" etc. but HL was one of those games (there are others from the era as well) that showed us FPS games didn't have to just be about shootan' bad guys in an arena.
