Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round Lower Bracket!

Each game in the lower bracket is still seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools! Every game in the lower bracket has already been defeated by another game in a 1-on-1 poll to get to this point. This is their chance to claw their way back into the main event... but the stakes are high. The games that lose in these polls are out of the tournament for good! The games that survive will face the next crop of upper bracket losers in the next round.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Wind Waker is a good, cute refinement of the by-then narrative-driven Zelda games. Nintendo understood that it was in their best interests to stylize (and simplify) their graphical style rather than just trying to make Ocarina of Time look better. It worked, to a degree.

Final Fantasy IV represents a better refinement on Square's Final Fantasy Formula till then. First, we got a rudimentary set of jobs that loosely define what your blank slate characters can do. Third, those jobs were systematized and increased in number. And here, they were attached to characters. Now, the Dark Knight isn't just a blank slate character, he's this guy. The Dragoon is this guy. The Summoner is this girl. The Bard is this guy. This really let Square tailor the plot in a way that didn't seem as arbitrary.

I also strongly appreciated how they creatively used the progression of the story to add and remove characters to and from your party, allowing them to develop different kinds of set-piece battles and challenges rather than just letting the player slump into a pattern of "this guy hits, this guy heals". Quite creative for the time. I think people often forget just how early/old FF4 really is. People were still playing on NES at the time, and many jumped over to SNES specifically for this big leap forward.

I find it extremely likely that I will like FFIV more than Wind Waker whenever I finally play it. Alas, I have not.

FFIV is a better game but I don’t love either enough to vote here…

I mean, one of them is going through, even if you don't love them. Might as well be the better game, no?
