Gaming Resolutions for 2017

Well, it's that time of year again (specifically, the time of year when the year is only a few hours old). I think these threads have actually been pretty darn useful for a lot of people. Setting clear gaming goals and then being accountable to the forum for them is a good motivation!

If you'd like to recap your resolutions for 2016, please visit the previous year's thread. Let's keep this one focused on new 2017 resolutions and our progress towards them throughout the year!

I'm going to be a little more ambitious than I was last year. Here are mine:

I. Beat 10 games I have never beaten before.

1. 2017-01-15 Unravel (PS4)
2. 2017-01-22 Final Fantasy: All the Bravest (Mobile)
3. 2017-01-26 Hitman GO: Definitive Edition (PS4)
4. 2017-02-04 Day of the Tentacle Remastered (PS4)
5. 2017-02-07 Gunmetal Arcadia Zero (Steam)
6. 2017-02-10 Picross e7 (3DS)

9. 2017-09-11 Destiny 2 (PS4)
10. 2017-10-26 Undertale (PS4)

II. Earn 5 new Platinum trophies.

2. 2017-01-29 Unravel (PS4)
3. 2017-02-04 Day of the Tentacle Remastered (PS4)
4. 2017-10-05 Destiny 2 (PS4)
5. 2017-10-26 Undertale (PS4)

III. Reach PSN level 23.

Progress: 1% through Level 23.

IV. Beat 1 game on Steam.

1. 2017-02-07 Gunmetal Arcadia Zero

V. Beat 2 games on a Nintendo portable system (retro or modern, including Switch).

1. 2017-02-10 Picross e7 (3DS)
2. 2017-02-18 My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (3DS)

VI. Get Destiny 2 and become as utterly dominant as I've been in Destiny.

Acquired? Yes.
Dominant? Yes.

VII. Experience multiple entertainmentpleasures while playing Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.

Entertainmentpleasures attained: 2.

VIII. Beat the highest-ranked game in the 2015-16 "BEST GAME EVER!!!" Project that I haven't already finished.

1. 2017-xx-xx - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U)

Setting the bar low.

-I want to beat Rance VI. Edit: Done.

-I want to beat Seinarukana.

-I want to get better at League of Legends. Sorta getting better. I'm getting a lot better at playing Soraka in particular.

-I think I want to set aside some cash for a Nintendo Switch. This should be pretty easy.

-I want to play some of the Steam games which I have in my library and haven't touched yet.

-I want to balance gaming with work and school obligations (and sleep) more carefully. This is the hardest.

Since I only made it to 50% of my target last year I think I'll stick to more modest goals this year and incorporate stretch goals. :)

Beat Five SNES games:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Beat five Game Boy Games

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Beat Five PC Engine games

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Complete my Mega Duck/Cougar Boy collection.

I only have to find five more of the 37 released carts for this system (which I began collecting for last Christmas). They don't come up often in the wild or on ebay so I'll need to keep my eyes peeled for the following:

1. Magic Maze
2. Five-in-One
3. Trap & Turn (own this one but it's broken)
4. 2nd Space
5. Zipball

2016 worked out pretty well for me, only missed one resolution. Lets see if this year can go as well.

Finish more games then I buy - This might be tricky this year with a new console coming out!

Finish Code Name STEAM (3DS) - I actually was debating last year whether to add this one to the list or not, now it's time.

Finish The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages
- Finished Link's Awakening and seasons in 2016, time to wrap this one up.

Finish Bloodborne

Finish 3 games that were released before 2006 - I'm hoping to see some Gamecube virtual console games down the line, might even go for the original Legend of Zelda.

Play 3 series I have never played before (not including indie games) - I don't even know what I'll play, maybe Bonk??

I'm making pretty steady progress on these suckers, considering we're only a month into the year. I already have three platinum trophies (as many as I got throughout the whole of 2015), so I only need two more to meet that goal. I'm hoping they'll be Final Fantasy XII and Destiny 2.

I usually do pretty much the same few things every year, which is fine with me. Forgot to post this year, though, so here they are. I'll include explanations in this post.

Beat 4 games from series I've never played
I'm a "depth first" sort of guy when it comes to gaming. I often get very focused on single series and fail to branch out. I always include this resolution to keep myself honest. For the purposes of this resolution, one-offs do not count (unless, I suppose, they get a sequel announcement).

1. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Remastered

Beat 3 games for platforms released 1999 or earlier (basically, Dreamcast or earlier) that I acquired before 2017 (Virtual Console, rereleases, etc. count)
I like to do this to keep my backlog honest. I consider myself a collector of video games, but only of those I actually care to play. This is an attempt to make sure my retro collection, which is especially prone to growing untenably, stays groomed.

1. The Legend of Zelda (NES, 1987)

Enter two Super Smash Bros. tournaments in the Pacific Northwest
I really enjoy Melee and Project M a great deal, but I put my money where my mouth is altogether too infrequently. Also, I bitch a lot about not knowing anyone in Seattle, so this is a potential avenue to fixing that (although most competitive Smash players are insufferable, so maybe not).
