To be honest, I don’t mind when this is going to take place. From all of our busy schedules and other things going on that I might not understand.
Same was just curious if it was still expected this year or not.

I want to do a couple of quick tests of Google Forms for nominations & voting to make sure they meet our needs, then I'll make a post and open this up.

Here's a poll nomination test (the first phase of the project): x

Yes, the form will allow multiple entries and thus multiple votes, so we have to decide how hard a line we want to draw:

1. Require people to login via Google account to nominate/vote. More people have Google accounts than TONe accounts.
2. Just use the form's "Tell us your name" feature and ignore any votes that come in from names we don't recognize (people I can't look up on Twitter, etc.).

We want to make this as streamlined for people as possible—the more you ask them to do, the smaller the chance of participation. For example, if I ask everyone to email me and get a unique code that they enter on the Google form to identify themselves, no one will do that.

But we don't want people voting twice.

I'm leaning towards #1 since people who exist online are very used to logging into an account they already have to validate themselves.

#1. Everyone has a Google account in one way or another. Even if it's unused.

Here's a sample/test poll that requires Google account login to ensure only one vote per (account).

You should only be able to vote for 1, 2, 3, or 4 options.

The other question the form asks is about collecting usernames (recognizing that not all voters will be from TONe). This is a way to continue our tradition of showing who voted for what, which is quite important for me (and can help me check against people still trying to make duplicate votes), but maybe not necessarily has to be public. Thoughts?

PS: I've just installed plugins that will let me schedule the polls to close at a specified time (like what we already had here) and let me pull the options for questions/answers in from a spreadsheet, which will save me a ton of work.

Aww I'm going to miss seeing the polls on the website. Sounds like we can get more people voting this way though.

Personally, I don't think people will vote twice. Otherwise just log in via google.

OK, hopefully this is the last round of fact-finding before we can get the ball rolling. :)

Here's a test poll/category submission form embedded in a standard TONe page (a blog post explaining BGE will direct people here) with Google credentials to enforce one entry only. This will allow people to edit their responses. This poll will automatically close at 5 P.M. EST on Friday, 1 February (my proposed time to conclude the category submission round).
