IMO Tame Impala's stuff has been decreasing in quality steadily since Lonerism. "Let It Happen" was the only really good song on Currents—even though it was clear evidence of how e-Dance they were going, it was at least the most artistically realized, meaty song. Everything else seemed kind of thin. I got the same feeling from the latest single I heard, alas. Maybe they'll surprise me.

Was Lonerism your first exposure to them/him? It is far and away the best album they've put out, and is the oddity in their catalogue. I don't mind at all the shift to dancier tunes, even if I'm back to liking them as simple good-time music.

My first exposure was actually their Flaming Lips collab on Heady Fwends, which led me to looking up Lonerism (since they came out around the same time). I don't mind a shift to dancier tunes in general, as long as those dancy tunes are good.

Sure but I guess my main point was that the quality of their output has kind of gone back to normal, so to speak, at least in terms of being a listenable, if unremarkable band. Lonerism was special.
