TOP 64 — Week 2 — Poll 8

Post by This Old Neon »

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 64!

Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Both fantastic games, but I have to give it to Celeste. Love me some SMeatB style platforming. The beautiful soundtrack and decent story help too.

Celeste is incredible just incredible. I feel it deserves to really have a shot at making the top 8.

Going with Ico here. Celeste has good action and well-designed levels, but it's really elevated by its story. Other than that, it's really just well-executed version of stuff we've seen before, and I actually think a few of the "boss encounters" cause the game to drag and sag a little bit. I appreciate the inclusion of the harder challenge stages for more shelf life.

Ico is a design revelation, insofar as something so minimalistic can be described as revelatory. The simple, straightforward concept and atmospheric world (and of course thoughtful level design) are a great example of a thoughtfully-crafted experience where neither the act of play nor the story get in the way of each other.
