Fire Emblem Fates

Post by The Shoemaker »

Game comes out in just over a week, who's pumped? Who's sad? Who can't stand the fact that they removed the face petting minigame?

I think I have Birthright pre-ordered, which is the version that is more akin to Fire Emblem Awakening. I'll most likely download Conquest after I beat Birthright. Ideally I would like to have the collectors edition, but my copy of the game is already 30% off so I would end up paying more for the collector's edition I think (comes with all 3 paths).

I've seen trailers here and there but generally haven't looked up too much info on the game, but I'm interested to see how the new changes work. I know they changed the pair up system a bit so it's a little more give and take and less OP. I know the weapon triangle has been altered a bit, and weapon durability is gone and replaced with weapon buffs/debuffs. Hopefully these changes add a little bit more strategy to the game. I will say that the only thing I'm not a huge fan of so far is the art style, seems very eastern in its influence, I prefer it to be a bit more on the medieval side, but I'm sure it will be fine once I play it.

I have both pre-ordered for the 30% discount. I can live without the collector's edition of this one. I have managed to avoid almost everything about the game so far (trailers, previews, etc.) so I feel good.

I've been half paying attention to this, but yeah I'll probably get it. I'm going for the Nohr version but I may end up getting the full game, including the Hoshido and third path.

I blissfully don't know what Nohr and Hoshido are.

I'm really hoping the core game manages to be more engaging than the previous game. I found the DLC model of the last game to be kind of alienating (I didn't want to pick up legacy characters and play weird optional maps, I didn't like the gimmicks, I didn't like the grinding and repetition). I prefer the traditional style of FE games where you progress through the game. If these ones must have some kind of DLC/microtransaction model, I hope they integrate it into the game a lot better than the previous one did. (Of course, maybe they simply won't, and the 3-stories model will replace the DLC model. That would be fine.)

I've heard some of the core mechanics will be different between the two different games. I actually hope that's the case, because if I like one more than the other, then I can focus on playing that one more. :)

Norh is Conquest, in which it plays more like traditional fire emblem where there's no grinding outside of chapters, the map variation is supposed to be a little more advanced and the story less traditional.

Hoshido is Birthright, where it plays more like Awakening. Conquest is definitely more interesting, but that's why I'm going to play it second.

As for DLC, revelations is the $20 expansion that is as long as a traditional fire emblem game, and comes out in March. I'm not sure what the story is. There is also Map Pack 1 that is available at launch which I believe unlike Awakening, furthers the story rather than being a separate alternate world. I didn't like Awakening's DLC because 1. Essentially all the characters offered were already available for free 2. The in game character models for old characters did not look like them at all.

As for me, I think I'll probably be satisfied with Birthright, Conquest and Revelations.

Conquest sounds like the one I will enjoy. Is weapon durability gone for both of them though?! :(

No more weapon durability and more weapon types.
Also... still no EU release date, but a few rumors that we may just recieve one version which contains both paths (which is most likely false, but may be a reaction to the huge amount of orders for the special edition in NA).

I'm open to the idea, since the trade off is having traits for generic weapons. Like I think brave weapons now leave you with -2 speed on enemy turns or something.
