Final Fantasy Quarterfinals

Post by This Old Neon »

Did you know that Square Enix has been relentlessly releasing Final Fantasy spinoffs and mobile tie-ins for the past few decades? This is a great time to sift through the silt and see what nuggets we can find. We haven’t included remakes, ports, and enhanced versions of main series games. If you really like one of those GBA updates, go ahead and vote for the main entry.
  • You can vote for one (1) game.
  • The winner will advance to the Semifinals.
  • You can’t change your votes once they’ve been submitted, so click carefully. Voting closes on Saturday at 11:59 P.M. ADT.

FFVI over the original. The SNES masterpiece has its deep structural flaws, but it's still quite fleshed out, with lots to do, lots of little hooks, and the original is essentially a stat grinder with great music.

FFVII is similarly deeply flawed, but even a cobbled-together junk game is better than the shallow fan-wank that was FFIX.

Tactics.

The last bracket here is a tough one because I have a soft spot for both of these games. Damn. I think I'm going to have to go with IV just because there are some great tunes in there, and because it's extremely colourful. I like how the story plays with the composition of your party for you, so you have to constantly adapt to new tactics.

It's been a good run FFX. After this round assuming it loses I'll abstain.
