I feel like also the fact I'm getting use to the controls, overworld and everything makes it harder as well. I feel like my experience with the sequel will be different.

2/5 - Turok (Switch [N64])
2/8 - Garou: Mark of the Wolves (PSN [Arcade])
2/17 - Makaimura for WonderSwan (WonderSwan)
3/3 - Bust-A-Move Pocket (Neo Geo Pocket Color)
3/7 - Luigi's Mansion 3 (Switch)
3/10 - Night Trap: 25th Anniversary Edition (PSN [Sega CD])
3/22 - Marvel's Spider-Man (PS4)
3/23 - Dragon Quest (Switch [NES])
3/26 - Panzer Dragoon: Remake (Switch)
4/4 - Doom 64 (Switch)
4/21 - Tearaway (PS Vita)
4/24 - Rocket Knight Adventures (Genesis)
5/1 - Streets of Rage 4 (PSN [PS4])
5/20 - Bare Knuckle III (Steam [Mega Drive])
5/21 - Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (GameCube)
5/23 - Forza Horizon 3: Horizon Hot Wheels (Xbone [DLC])
5/26 - Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition (Xbone)
7/2 - Star Wars Episode I: Racer (PSN [N64])
7/5 - Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition (Switch [Wii])
7/11 - Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line (Switch [NES])
7/16 - Virtual Boy Wario Land (VB)
7/26 - Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation (Switch[NES])
8/10 - Gate of Thunder (VC [TGCD])
8/26 - Battletoads (Xbone)
9/4 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater [HD Remaster] (PS4 [PS1])
9/4 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 [HD Remaster] (PS4 [PS1])
9/24 - Yakuza 0 (PS4)
10/4 - Maximo: Ghosts to Glory (PS2)
10/12 - Super Ghouls'n Ghosts (SNES)
10/30 - Goku Makaimura Kai (PSP)
11/16 - Super Mario Bros. 2 (G&W [FDS])

At long last, by finishing Japan's Mario 2 (aka The Lost Levels), I have beaten all of the Super Mario platformers, a fact I've long been able to claim with a caveat. I love this series, but this Mario-Makeresque sequel never really felt great to me. Nevertheless, I'm glad to have beaten it because it's a damned hard game, and it's one of the chosen few Mario games that lets you play as Luigi right on first boot. That's fun! Yes, I used warp zones, yes I looked up the more fiendish tricks the game plays. I don't care. I beat it! A game that bested me in my childhood is checked off the list. Always a good feeling.

Plus, it'll probably go down *forever* as the only game I'll ever beat with the platform indicator of "G&W [FDS]", so that's fun too.

11/16 - Super Mario Bros. 2 (G&W [FDS])
11/19 - Yakuza Kiwami (PS4 [PS2])

Damn this game and series rule. I think I liked this game even better than Zero, but a lot of that may just be that Zero gave me the foundation to connect with and enjoy the characters in Kiwami (remake of 1) even more. Still a *long* way to go to complete Kiryu's story, but I like where this is headed. I look forward to playing all the games I have left, even though it looks like that's gonna be well over 100 hours of games.

In the meantime, I'll probably take a quick break from the series to squeeze something else in. Maybe Dragon Quest IV? I'll see what strikes me, but that's seeming likely. Can't get enough of either of these series right now.

Starting off the new generation in style by beating the PS5's splendid 3D platformer pack-in, Astro's Playroom. You know me, I don't normally enjoy 3D platformers, but this one is tight and focused enough to keep up the enjoyment throughout, and it's filled to the brim with adorable PlayStation callbacks from the past 25 years.

The reason this is a platinum but not a complete is because there's a sub-7-minute speedrun component that I'm about halfway through right now. But I'll get it.

I find this funny, because the prospect of a quality 3D platformer pack-in was the tipping point in me wanting a PS5 lol.

Gratz on the Plat!

Oh, PS, for those wondering if that's how small and tight and focused the game is—no, that's not sub-7-minutes for the whole game. There's a separate speedrun "zone" with courses based on the other areas of the game.

OK, that speedrun didn't take long (lol). That's 100% on Astro's Playroom. Time to move on to some other PS5 games! (Or PS4 games on PS5.) (Or Astro Bot's Rescue Mission on PSVR since I'm charmed by this little robo buddy right now.)
