Finished:
Jan 29. Splatoon 3
Feb 12. Mario Kart Super Circuit (NSO GBA)

Rolled credits in super circuit now that it's available on Switch. I will say, I gave this game a bad rap for so long but it's still a fun little kart racer. It almost feels like Mario Kart-lite. I don't think I could tolerate anything other than 50cc though! I might give the original Super Mario Kart a second look as I always lumped these two together as "the bad ones".

The WHAT? The original Super Mario Kart is one of the only good ones. After MK64 (including MK64 for some) they just turned into chaos, which is fun in its own different way. But SMK is fun for memorizing and then perfecting track layouts. You're right that 50-100cc is around the sweep spot for that kind of gameplay.

This reminds me I should check out the new NSO additions soon though!

I know it's blasphemy, I just always viewed the controls as so slippery to the point of not being fun. I did give Super MK a go last night and I think it plays a little better than Super Circuit actually. Not sure if I'm going to play all the way through but I no longer can call them "the bad ones"

Finished:
Jan 29. Splatoon 3
Feb 12. Mario Kart Super Circuit (NSO GBA)
Feb 12. Kirby Super Star (NSO SNES)
Feb 12. Kirby's Dream Land (NSO GB)

After getting a bit of a retro kick with Mario Kart, I decided to give Kirby Super Star a go since I've never really played more than a couple minutes of it. It's good! Still holds up as a fun Kirby game, I like the amount of variety it has rather than a single campaign.

Also decided to check out the original Kirby on GB. Short and sweet! Funny playing a Kirby game without the copy ability, but it worked as a simple platformer.

Beaten:
01/21 - Tempest 4000 (Xbone)
01/25 - Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (PS4)
01/31 - Dadish 3 (Xbone)
02/01 - Pentiment (XSX)
02/03 - GoldenEye 007 (N64 [XSX])
02/10 - Diabolical Pitch (XBLA Kinect)

Finally got caught up on the blog! Really enjoyed all of these, but Pentiment in particular was a refreshing and unique treat. Diabolical Pitch was fun too, and I think it's the first pure Kinect game (ie not just a traditional game with Kinect features) I've ever finished? Makes me want to look into some of its other hidden gems while the 360 store is still up. :)

Completed:
02/07 - GoldenEye 007

Oh, and I liked GoldenEye enough to 100% it and get all achievements.

With my completion of Valiant Hearts: The Great War tonight, 2023 has become my best gaming year since 2019... and it's only February!

One more beation & completion will even see me surpass 2019, and I still have a couple backlogged games I can polish off for that purpose, although none of the fruit is as low-hanging as the stuff I've picked already.

Still, it's nice to be clearing some of this stuff off the plate. Heartening. Encouraging. Morale boosting. :belmont:

Doom [Ultimate] - Surprisingly fun game. The 4th chapter (Ultimate) was unforgiving and very frustrating but the other 3 chapters were incredibly enjoyable which surprised me since I didn't enjoy Quake and thought Doom was just similar to Quake.

Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 - Jank 3d platformer from 2003~ I enjoyed it enough but can't recommend anyone to buy it since it doesn't do anything special. It was a free game on steam so if you own it already I feel it's worth the download and play.

Baba is You - Hard game very hard game. The final level was very tricky but with a nudge in the right direction I got it. I recommend it if you can get it for less than $10.

Mario Kart: Super Circuit - Own on GBA but played on Switch finished everything on 50cc kinda just wanted to 100% my GBA library and it was a fun-ish little game much prefer DS/7/8

Kuru Kuru Kururin - Simple game that was surprisingly addictive and fun. Really worth playing if you have NSO

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage - Really fun playing the remaster over the original lots of improvements and an enjoyable simple story.

Re: 2023 Game Clear Thread

I've been making my updates via edits in my original post and then making monthly update summaries in a new post in the thread, to remind people that I'm still playing games silently in the background. :D

In February, I managed to beat 6 games (one more than in January), 5 of them full completion (one more than in January), with 1 re-beat (Flower on a different platform), and I also gained two new Platinum trophies.

I still have at least one little indie game from back in the PS3-to-PS4 days that I started up and abandoned when moving over to the new system that I have a renewed motivation to finish off, as well as a couple of more recently-backlogged indies, so I'll keep chipping away at those in between Ogre battles.

2023-02-21 - マリオのスーパーピクロス (SFC via Switch) - Nothing much to say about this. It's more Picross. In fact, it's OG Picross, so the controls are clunky and some of the last puzzles were surprisingly challenging! Which is good.

2023-02-18 - Valiant Hearts: The Great War (PS4 via PS5) - I literally played this because one of the main characters is a Doberman Pinscher named Walt, but damn, this is a surprisingly hard-hitting game about the horrors of WW1.

2023-02-15 - Puyo Puyo Tetris (PS4 via PS5) - Tetris is good and Puyo Puyo is shit, but it doesn't even out. As far as enjoyable playability is concerned, one could just play nothing but the Tetris side, but then it's an over-priced and under-featured Tetris game.

2023-02-10 - Pic-a-Pix Color (PS4 via PS5) is an awkward little Picross clone with slightly clunky-feelin' controls and slightly clunky-lookin' pictures. But it does have a colour-blindness-friendly mode, which instantly bumps it up in my favour!

2023-02-05 - Flower (PS4 via PS5) - I beat this on PS3 back in the day and for some reason had a barely-started PS4 save file kicking around as well. So I thought I'd finish it off as my relaxing between missions game du jour. One of the trophies was not relaxing, but it was worth the replay. Controls are crap.

2023-02-03 - Doki-Doki Universe (PS4 via PS5) - A cute little bite-sized fetch quest puzzle game. I booted it up back in the Vita days and left it unbeaten, so it seemed like some good backlog cleanup.

Finally.

This game goes on forever, which is not a bad thing if you enjoy Picross. But when you feel like you're close to the finish line and think to yourself "I'll just knock out these last couple puzzles" and then you end up unlocking a whole new difficulty mode, it's lol. It's lol.

Finished:
Jan 29. Splatoon 3
Feb 12. Mario Kart Super Circuit (NSO GBA)
Feb 12. Kirby Super Star (NSO SNES)
Feb 12. Kirby's Dream Land (NSO GB)
Mar 08. Mario Strikers: Battle League (Switch)

Finished the normal mode campaign for Strikers. An enjoyable enough game. Mechanics are good, the game itself is a little barebones otherwise.
