TOP 16 — Poll 8 of 8

Post by This Old Neon »

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 16!

Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Prime easily. Was such a great transition into 3d and MM2 never hit the same spot as MMX for me.

Not a super-easy vote for me even though I personally prefer one of these games over the other a great deal. I'm not shackled to my own personal preferences when evaluating a game's quality. Mega Man 2 is probably tied with MMX for my favourite game in the series, with MM9 very very close behind, but its not without its flaws. It's buggy. Among all the other MM games, its weapon circle is not the most balanced. But it does have iconic, excellent designs for the robot masters, and it's not bogged down by extraneous mechanics.

Metroid Prime is an admirable experiment, translating an exploration-focused game into first-person, but this foray came with its own jarring little tonal/design-balance issues, like the combat vs. scanning, or the odd perspective shifts of the Samusball sections, etc. Fine game, no doubt does what it does well, no doubt deserves a spot high up in this contest, but not enough to make it better than something like MM2.
