We don't have to "remember" how much we enjoyed it. Tetris is still the definitive version of the game. Various installments have tried to improve it, with no discernible lasting impact. If I'm waiting for a bus or restless for 5 minutes before falling asleep at night, I still go back to the original Tetris (conveniently available on my 3DS) over newer, more convoluted puzzle games. :)

I want to point out that I do like Tetris but it just gets boring quickly 5-10 minutes but the first 5 minutes is enjoyable.

Edit: I could however say the same about pong/space invaders/frogger and other older basic games.

The problem with that idea is, which "one"'s? I'm happy to pick up Tetris at almost any time and sink an hour or so into it. Therefore it's a great game. BGE closed, we have a winner. Nah. Posts and votes do a great job of revealing the landscape of opinions on a particular game. It's interesting to hear that people find it boring (though not altogether surprising—after all, there are people around here voting for Banjo and Pokémon games, so boring must have some cachet), and even more interesting that the first words of dissent about this particular example are just starting to come out in the Top 32.
I mean anyone who votes for it. I think you may be talking out of two sides of your mouth a little bit if you want to exclaim it's fantastic but can't bring yourself to play it. Unless it is Fatal Frame :) Interesting that you still play it and glad to hear that and that you're enjoying it.

I've been mute up until now because I'm a pragmatic dude and recognize and accept that Tetris is nearly an unstoppable juggernaut in the BGE and will advance quite far no matter what I do. I was just venting a little bit here as the victories become increasingly irksome to me. Just had to get that off my chest! I did rant about it quite a bit last BGE, too, you may recall. Because I didn't get it then either.

Nah. Different people vote for different games for different reasons. :)

EDIT: Expanding on this because I was just running out to lunch when I saw your reply. You're probably speaking generally rather than referring specifically to me here, but in reference to my TF2 example, I do exclaim it's fantastic but can only bring myself to play it for a couple games at a time. This is because, although it's a great game, I'm not very good at it. You don't have to spend too much time over regular play sessions to know when a game is hugely influential or well-polished. That's not inconsistent or talking out of two sides of a mouth, it's simply nuanced.

I definitely still play Tetris often. Lately I have been playing the NES version, because I always have my NES hooked up, so it's convenient.

Fucking shameful, Nintendo fanboys.
I'll take Nintendo fanboys over Square fanboys any day of the week.

Exactly. Didn't mean to say that people are blinded by nostalgia, but that the strength of the game is that it still offers the exact same experience today as it did when it first came out.

And this remark is not meant to dog on Tetris at all, but there's a reason the smart phone market is so big. People like bite sized experiences when the gameplay is strong and addicting.
